ADOPTION APPLICATION INFORMATION

You must be twenty-one years of age to adopt a dog or cat from Partners For Pets. You must also fill out an application completely. We do not have a shelter so we usually set up a meeting at a Pet Supermarket or PetSmart so that you can interact with the dog inside air conditioning. We do not adopt out our dogs to people who rent, and yes, we do check. The reason is we get so many calls from people who are moving and "can't take my dog with me". Our adoption fees vary according to how much money we have put into the dog, how old or young the dog is, how large or small and if the dog is purebreed or not. We want to chip the dogs but if you have been listening to the news, the Vets are trying to make chipping surgery and we may not be able to much longer. if you have a dog now get it done before they do this as it is only about $30.00 - $40.00 right now! We do give the vaccinations, including rabies and we test the dogs for heartworm only. We do test the cats for the feline leukemia and AIDS. We want our dogs and cats to be treated as part of the family, which means if they are sick they need to go to the doctor just as you would take your child. Please be sure this is an expense you can afford because it is now VERY expensive to own a pet. We will expect you to give us the name of your current vet and if this is a first pet, we will want the name of the vet you intend to use. Some people are dissapointed when they are turned down for lack of a fence. A fence is necessary because so many of our dogs were once strays. Other families may be out of our adoption area, making it difficult to conduct our required home visit and our post-adoption follow-ups. If this is the case, then PFP encourages potential adopters to visit and support the shelters in their areas. There are many reasons why we may not be able to help every person who fills out one of our applications, but the comfort and safety of the pets in our care must be out number one concern.
